ART & DESIGN: WEST MEETS EAST

For A Level Art & Design and History of Art students and their teachers.

An opportunity to experience Oxford University's teaching and explore the Ashmolean Museum's collections. The Ashmolean's A-Level Study Days are designed to enrich and support delivery of the A-Level curriculum, giving access to the Ashmolean’s collections with museum curators and Oxford University academics with university-style lectures and workshops.

PROGRAMME

Lectures from Dr Francesca Leoni, Curator of Islamic Art and An van Camp, Curator of Northern European Art will explore objects and artworks from a time of unprecedented European expansion, as merchants shipped eastern objects to Europe, their popularity transforming Western taste.

Afternoon workshops include Eastern or Western Art study room visits to discover rarely seen works on paper, curator-led gallery tours and conservation workshops.

'The Study Day was such an inspiring and insightful day, bringing alive the workings behind a museum as well as honing the skills relevant to art appreciation'

Teacher of Art, Wallingford School
