PAINTING FACES EXHIBITION FOR HIRE

Touring exhibition for hire

People have been perfecting faces since the earliest times, and whether painting portraits or decorating the skin, they have used the same materials – from kohl in ancient Egypt to white lead in eighteenth-century Europe.

Painting Faces: The Art of Flattery explores the fascinating history of the art of ‘making-up’. Featuring over 40 drawings, prints and objects the exhibition focuses on eighteenth and nineteenth-century attitudes towards painting faces, and uncovers the long-standing links between portraiture and cosmetics.
