ABSTRACT PAINTINGS OF PETER LANYON: WORKSHOP

Shaped by nature purple and green logo

One-day practical session in the Ashmolean Learning Studio.

Tickets are £105 each. Booking is essential.

Please note this workshop is fully booked. There will be a repeat workshop announced shortly.

Discover the techniques of Peter Lanyon, the British painter from St Ives, whose landscapes leant heavily towards abstraction, with artist Kieran Stiles.

This workshop is all about the edges where elements meet in painting. What happens when water meets land, or clouds collide with a cliff face, or rain drives into a forest?

You will explore oil painting techniques and the methods of abstraction pioneered by the ground-breaking St Ives painter Peter Lanyon and the St Ives art of the 1940-60 which included drawn motifs such as circles, arcs and other geometric forms and textures inspired by structures in the natural world.
