With Dr Paul Roberts, Research Keeper of Antiquities at the Ashmolean
Rome, as we all know, was not built in a day. Exploring the subject of his book, join Dr Roberts to discover the glorious monuments of this ancient city, delve into their stories, the people who built them, and the impact they had.
It took centuries to build Rome, shaped by politics, society, changing technology and most of all its rulers, the Emperors, constantly and conspicuously displaying their power.

Nothing symbolised that power more than monuments. These served a purpose – arena, theatre, temple – but they also beautified the city and most importantly glorified the Emperors.
