With Dr Paul Roberts, Research Keeper of Antiquities at the Ashmolean

In this talk you will take a look through the newly-redisplayed galleries of 'Early Italy' and 'Rome and the Roman Empire' at the Ashmolean Museum with curator Dr Paul Roberts.

These galleries were already full of wonderful things, but with new displays, new thoughts – and new lighting – they will shine even brighter, like these treasures below.

Bust of Rome's Empress Agrippina

Head of the Empress Agrippina minor, with diadem, AD 40 – AD 50

Famous oval-shaped Roman Felix gem showing scenes from the Trojan war including Odysseus and Poseidon poised in battle

The Asmmolean's revamped Rome galleries re-open in May this year. They are currently closed for the renovation work.

This talk is part of our Create & Transform season of events. It also marks our summer Festival of Archaeology.
