An Exclusive Talk for Members of the Ashmolean
For those attending in person, this talk is in the Museum's Headley Lecture Theatre
Tea, coffee and cake will be served from 3pm
The online event will be held on Zoom
With Professor Jennifer Sliwka, the Ashmolean's Keeper of Western Art
In this talk, Professor Sliwka will explore the great strengths of the Ashmolean Museum's Italian Renaissance collections, which have made it a place of artistic pilgrimage from the 19th century to this day.
Professor Sliwka will discuss how these works, including some of the world’s best collections of Raphael and Michelangelo drawings, came to the Museum, before examining a few in greater detail.
The drawings, which are light sensitive, are no longer on permanent display for conservation reasons but are viewable by appointment in the Western Art Print Room.
This talk aims to increase their accessibility further, by demonstrating the ways they reveal the artists’ innovative thinking processes for some of the most famous sculptures and paintings of the Italian Renaissance.
The talk will be recorded, and the recording will be distributed to ticketholders following the event.
