With Dr William Beswick, Christensen Fellow, Eastern Art Department

Join us for an introduction to a set of newly-acquired works by Hong Kong artist Cheung Yee (1936-2019). We will delve into the fascinating history of how he and his contemporaries in Hong Kong and Taiwan drew on Chinese tradition to develop a thoroughly modern artistic practice within the context of the global Cold War.

The tour will also look at the role that the Ashmolean played and continues to play in that story, as collector, promoter, and celebrator of modern and contemporary Chinese art.
