Biography
Nicky Lobatón joined The Ashmolean Museum in 2005 as an Objects Conservator. She holds a degree in Conservation and Restoration of Archaeological Objects from the Escola Superior de Conservació i Restauració de Catalunya (awarded in Barcelona in 1999) and a Masters degree in Conservation of Historic Objects (Archaeology) from the University of Durham (2001).

Prior to The Ashmolean she worked in the Instituto de Patrimonio Histórico Español, where she conserved oriental lacquer, Medieval casquets and archaeological textile. She worked on other projects in Spain and France, conserving archaeological and paleontological material on-site and in laboratories.

Nicky has contributed to many significant projects at The Ashmolean, including the Museum’s redevelopment in 2009, where she worked on a huge variety of objects for display in 39 new galleries and the conservation of objects for the new Ancient Egypt and Nubia Galleries in 2011.
The Museum’s wide breadth of collections has enabled Nicky to develop broad experience working on a wide variety of organic and inorganic objects of varying complexity. Nicky is also involved in preparing loans, displays, exhibitions, preventive conservation duties and broader museum issues.
