Activity 1: Setting the scene. Using Thomas Seddon’s ‘View of the River Nile’ we will set the scene and imagine what it would be like to step into the scene. What would we see, hear, smell and feel.
What can we learn from archaeological evidence? How did the early Ancient Egyptians live? What did they eat? What would they have needed in their daily life? What games did they play? Using high quality images of objects from the collections, children will build a better understanding of life in Ancient Egypt.
Activity 2: Encounter real Ancient Egyptians Pupils will explore Ancient Egyptian sculpture, buildings and objects to find out more about their life and beliefs. They will learn to read some hieroglyphs and recognise some symbols. Option to make a gold card ankh.
Activity 3: Music and dance Using a music clip and an animated copy of a tomb painting children will learn more about the importance of music, dance and ritual in Ancient Egypt
Activity 4: Make a game of Ancient Egyptian skittles Using air drying clay, children will make their own Ancient Egyptian skittle game, decide on rules for the game and play like an Egytian.
Activity 5: Review What new discoveries have we made today about life in Ancient Egypt? What skills have we used to help us find out more?
