The Worcester Porcelain Factory was established in 1751 and, after being awarded a royal warrant, the company became known as Royal Worcester from 1862. It is believed to be one of the oldest remaining porcelain brands in existence today.

Although the technical skills and quality of the factory was always considered high, the period between 1752 and 1783, known as the Wall period, represents the highest level of excellence produced by them.

Most likely used for sorbet or custard, this cup dates from within the Wall period in c.1780. It features twelve compartments of alternating holly berry wreaths and red trellis designs with a royal blue border defined with gilding.
